2nd NeEDS Modeling Week
January 6-11, 2020
Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences
University of Chile
The aims of the NeEDS Modeling Week are to train students in modeling real-world problems using quantitative approaches (e.g. data science, optimization) and to stimulate their collaboration and communication skills in an international and intersectoral environment. Furthermore, we aim at bringing together academia with professionals from the public and private sector to show the potentials advanced quantitative models can have for practice as well as to nurture the respective research agenda.
This NeEDS Modeling Week is the second of a series within the H2020-MSCA-RISE NeEDS project (agreement No 822214). The first NeEDS Modeling Week was held in Seville in July 2019 and can be found here
This NeEDS Modeling Week will be held at the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Chile in Santiago, Chile on January 6-11, 2020.
It is co-organized by the Institute of Complex Engineering Systems, the Innovation Ecosystem OpenBeauchef, and the H2020-MSCA-RISE NeEDS project (NeEDS), and takes part of the satellite meetings of the 4th International Conference BAFI 2020 (January 6 - 8, 2020, Santiago, Chile).
The format of the Modeling Week is to spend one week working to solve real-world problems using different quantitative modeling approaches. Small groups of multinational Master students, Ph.D. students, and junior researchers (like post-doctoral students) will be assigned to each problem in term of their preference and own skills on the first day of the event after the presentation of the problems. An instructor leads each of these groups. During the following four days, students will work on solving the problems under the guidance of the instructor and industrial collaborators. The final day of the meeting will be devoted to the presentation of the results.
Dates: January 6-11, 2020
